Former Treasury Secretary Summers Steps Down from OpenAI Board
One-time economic leader Lawrence Summers is leaving the board at the artificial intelligence firm, just days after a collection of digital correspondence between him and late convicted sex offender the disgraced billionaire became widely known.
He stated in a release that he was "grateful for the opportunity to have contributed, optimistic about the promise of the enterprise, and eagerly await observing their advancement".
The former Harvard president, who formerly led Harvard University, declared on recently that he would be withdrawing from public responsibilities due to his association with Epstein.

The newly public communications demonstrated that the economist exchanged messages with Epstein until the day before the financier's 2019 apprehension for suspected sex trafficking of underage individuals.
In another announcement, the technology organization said it accepted his choice to step down.
"We acknowledge his numerous inputs and the insight he provided to the directors," the company commented.
Political Context
This news follows after the entire Congress of Congress decided on recently to approve a legislation that would mandate the US justice department to disclose its documents on Jeffrey Epstein.
The measure will subsequently proceed to the desk of US President Donald Trump for endorsement. Trump has said he intends to approve the measure, after reversing his position on the issue following pressure from his followers.

A group of financier-linked emails made public by the legislative panel days ago referenced numerous prominent individuals in the financier's past associates, without indicating any illegal behavior by those people.
The emails revealed that the professor and the financier dined together frequently, with the billionaire often attempting to connect the academic to notable international personalities.

After the correspondence were made available with the wider community, the former official said he assumed "total ownership for my ill-advised judgment to continue interacting with Jeffrey Epstein".

Following Summers' announcement on Monday, the policy organization, a liberal policy institute in the capital where the professor was a prominent member, announced that he was not affiliated with the organization.
Summers joined the directorate of the AI company, which develops ChatGPT, in last year - following a defeated move to oust its chief executive the company leader.
